Had a very busy time during the past nine months undertaking a variety of plant hire and contract works around the South of England. We have carried out works for Cemex, Lafarge Cement, Black & Vetch, Balfour Beatty, Canterbury City Council, Thanet District Council & Bretts, EDSR to name but a few.

We have also purchased some new equipment recently including a new Volvo FH16 6x4 lorry together with a Euro 60-03 hydraulic rear steer low loader, a Hyundai 520LC-9 excavator and a Volvo ECR88 Midi excavator. We have also purchased a new Krupp HB 3000 breaker for heavy breakout works which is suited to our 45 tonne excavators. It has been a busy year for the contracting and plant hire division across the country. 

Chunnel now have a new Plant manager, Jodie Knell who joined ourselves in September 2010, and we would like to welcome Jodie onboard.

Oct 2008 – Dec 2009
We have been busy with contracting works and plant hire through out the year.

The Plant Hire division has continued to be busy mainly within Kent and have included works for various main contractors on many of the large civil engineering projects.

We have undertaken several Contracting projects around the Uk, these include Cemex Uk, Lafarge Cement, Shepway District Council, Balfour Beatty Rail, Thanet District Council, Canterbury City Council, Eastbourne Borough Council and Bancroft Amenities. All contracts have included earthworks together with crushing and screening projects and construction of Gabion Earth Retaining Walls.

We would like to thank all customers past and present for your support through out the year and would like to wish you all an excellent Christmas and a prosperous new year.

Jan - October 2008
Works have continued to be busy through out the year, carrying out contracts for Nuttall Hynes creating a new composting facility at Chipping Ongar, Lafarge Aggregates at Stonecastle Farm diverting of footpaths and creating wildlife wetland areas and Brett Aggregates at Cliffe reclaiming materials & stockpiling for later use. We have recently secured and started a three year contract with Shepway District Council, carrying out beach replenishment works for Coastal Sea Defences between Hythe and Folkestone.

The Plant Hire division has also been busy within the Kent area with continued work for Black & Veatch, Balfour Beatty, Raymond Brown, TW Services and Clancy Docwra.

September - December 2007
 Firstly we would like to congratulate Mr Robert Allen for successfully passing the recent plant course undertaken at Bircham Newton, Robert passed all categories with flying colours, keep up the good work - well done.

July - August 2007
 We would like to welcome our newest employee Mr Robert Allen who is being sponsored by ourselves for a two year apprenticeship with the National Construction College which commences in September this year.  This will provide Robert with the necessary training, together with  Health & Safety requirements to operate machinery on construction projects.
 
Even with the unsettled summer weather we have continued to be busy with general plant hire and contract earthworks.  We have almost completed works at the new Stop 24 Early Arrivals for Norwest and the White Cliffs Business Park for Ringway which should be concluded by mid September.

March - June 2007
Works have been continuing at the new Stop 24 at Stanford mostly finishing works including type one and re-top soiling ready for the grand opening.  We have also started a contract for Ringway at the White Cliffs Business Park, Phase 1 near Dover which is currently ongoing.

We have also been busy tendering for various works and are waiting to hear for start dates.

Oct - December 2007
Well it was an extremely busy end to 2006 with works in full swing on the new Stop 24 Early Arrivals Contract in Kent together with another contract for Nuttalls in East Sussex. Works have been hampered by the continuing rain but we have progressed and we are looking forward to the start of a busy 2007.

January - February 2007
Chunnel Group were soon back in full swing after the Christmas holiday. We continued the earthworks operation at the Stop 24 together with associated works including type one and top soiling operations. Works were halted at Nuttalls due to the site being flooded and we are hoping to get back in the next few weeks. We also carried out emergency works for Shepway District Council along the South Kent Coast due to severe weather, we managed to mobilise about 8 items of plant within a few days in order to protect the natural coastline.

Chunnel have recently purchased two new Volvo A25D dump trucks and a Caterpillar D6N dozer to add to our fleet. We are also looking at two new 13 tonne self propelled rollers which we shall be placing orders for towards the end of February.

May 2006
Chunnel have been fortunate to secure contracts with existing and new customers which shall keep us busy over the summer season.

All works commence this month, including the next phase for the engineered landfill cell for Cory Environmental at Southend, bulk earthworks for Lafarge Aggregates including overburden removal and aggregate extraction in Sussex together with an earthwork package for Jenner Contractors for a new school complex in Ashford
.

April 2006
The contracting side has been very busy over the last five weeks carrying out beach replenishment works for Local District Councils around the South East Coast.  We have also undertaken a bulk muck shifting operation for Biffa Waste Services which we completed in March.  We are still pricing many varied earthwork contracts, a couple of which we have secured and should be starting towards the end of this month.  Full details will be in next months news in brief.
 
The Plant Hire department continues to be busy and is utilising about 40% of our fleet. 
 
Chunnel would also like to welcome and congratulate their most recent dump truck driver Chris Quint who trained and passed his CPCS plant certificate in February this year.

March 2006
We have finally managed to get the web site redeveloped courtesy of RedMullet Design.

It has been a slow start for contract works, although winter is now behind us and we are all looking forward to a busy spring and summer. We have been pricing several earthwork contracts and we are presently awaiting confirmation.

The plant hire division has been fairly busy with works spread around the Kent and Sussex area.

We are currently seeking a leading Sales Marketing Manager together with experienced plant operators for excavators, dozers and dump trucks, please see contact page for details.


Our newest addition to the fleet is a Cat 345B LME excavator which runs perfectly on large size earthworks contracts together with our extensive array of 30 tonne dump trucks. We are presently selling some of our Volvo A25B dump trucks and we will then be looking to purchase some Volvo A30D's to keep the fleet up to date. Please see contact page for details.
